Hi all, I'm after a bit of help if anyone can.

My DCS unit has failed on the 1 series and the dealer have quoted £1800 to replace! They have contacted BMW who offered to pay 80% of the cost of the parts whcih still leaves me with a bill for nearly £700 which is not cool at all.

Anyone had any experience of this and BMW's response or other fixes? BabyBMW is full of people who have had similar experiences but greater offers of goodwill, can't work out why mine is lower... (and yes I know they could tell me to poke it and I should be greatfull for any offer at all - its just it seams a bit gauling on a 4 year old car with 68K on the clock)...

Cheers,

Mike

Try and talk to/send a letter to the head office in Bracknell. Hopefully they'll sort it out.

We had this fail on our 54 plate 120D earlier in the year, and ended up paying for it ourselves (our car didn't have a full dealer service history, as we started taking it to an independant BMW specialist once the manufacturer warranty had run out).

My wife knows of 2 people at work who have 1 series, and both their cars have needed the DSC unit replacing too recently. So it seems a very common issue.

What's odd is that my slightly older 3 series has what looks to be the same part fitted to it, but the forums aren't full of 3 series owners complaining... (I hope I won't become the first!), so it must be something specific to the installation in the 1 series I guess.

The dealer has put in a request for goodwill to Bracknell - this is what bought the bill down. I have since approached them myself to see if they will increase their offer.
