Right i bought my E30 a few weeks ago.

Today i have found out it has a cracked head and the engine is completely fked, i have two choices replace the engine £1500 in total spending nearly £5k on an E30 which isn't in the best condition or do i just sell it for parts and lose out on a potential £2k.

I have contacted the previous owner as after looking at it and getting a few mechanics to have a look, the head gasket was replaced about 3 months ago, so the previous owner new there was a problem (Stupid dirty thieving scumbag turk- who will be dealt with through the police and his boss(my friend)).

Option 3 is to keep it, turn it into a show car, make it completely original and enhance the E30 style then when i get have the money fit a new engine and by a moped in the mean time.

Over to you guys what would you do??

With option 3 i would end up fitting either a 325i or something bigger making it a little different still not decided, may turn it into some sort of drift/track/drag/show car.

Its a 20 year old car.. I doubt it was sold with any kind of a warranty. You don't buy an old car like that and expect it to be trouble free. But if it is trouble free, then think of it as a bonus smile I don't think the police and whoevers boss is going to give a toss about your misfortune to be honest.
As for £1500 for a new engine: Thats madness to spend that kind of money on an old car, unless its something special. Anything from a 316 to a 325 shouldn't cost that much to obtain a decent secondhand engine for. Perhaps seize the opportunity to upgrade!? Plenty of other BMW engines will drop into an E30 and are not hard or expensive to source.

I live in cyprus, engines are not easy to come by.

thanks for your concern, but his boss will care and so will he if the police become involved as he has no work permit which can lead to deportation or a big fine sometimes both.

You can buy a second hand 325 engine for £300 in the UK with gearbox, looms and everything else. Surely you could have one shipped to Cyprus without it costing mega money.

Craig, as one who once spent a small fortune on an e30 318iS, break it for parts and give it up as a bad job.

There is no market for it out here, otherwise i would, the mentality of these morons is to do a job bad until it breaks then bodge it until it breaks again and so the routine continues.

There is only 2 E30's on this island that are good an m5 powered drag car and a original 325i se with only 50k on the clock.

After doing an engine conversion on my e30 it seems like a very good blank canvass.... why put an E30 or even BMW engine back in?

You'll have to register but there are usually a fair few on here in the "parts for sale" section on the forum:
