The Tourer is having its first service tomorrow (just under 20k), and the outside of the front driver side tyre is worn to the limit.

The rears are fine, as is the other front, it is just the outer edge.

Any thoughts as to why? It hasn't be abused at all.

My thinking, but just one tyre, one part of that tyre, with that much wear, where the other tyres have lots of wear left??

Does your other half drive the car? Has she (or you?) hit a kerb heavily? Sounds like a simple case of tracking - or the car has been heavily kerbed & a lower wishbone/tie-rod bent...

It is just the boss and I who drive it as it is a directors pool car.

I noticed also that it has a small tear in the top of the tyre so it needs replacing anyhow. Frustrating seeing that the rest are all doing fine.

Are they runflats? If so, they are prone to cracking just on the edge of the side wall, where the wall meets the tread, probably due to their extra stiffness and getting "potholed" at sometime. If you have loads of tread left, try to see if you can get the seller/fitter to send it back to the supplier. If the tread has worn, i would seriously consider the tracking is out on one side

i'd have thought this was a tracking problem.

I had the same problem on rear RFT's after 18k - I believe that mine was caused by under inflation (I used to check them rarely). At my 18k service, the dealer said that they needed urgent attention, but also recommended running 3psi over the stated pressure. I did this and got another 6k out of them. The fronts are still legal after the 24k (although they are not on the car as I changed to non-RFT's)

thats the only one! Otherwise, it is great. Economy reasonable if you are happy to puter. I got 34 out of a trip to France which wasn't driving anything near economic. 44 is quite achievable.

It is quick for what it is. It is a small estate though.

That's the only woe that I've got - get one! The 35d engine is superb.

The only other problems I've had are a software update to cure a wandering mirror and the infrequent iDrive freeze and a squeeky parking sensor. Both cured under warranty.

My only othe woe is that my Mrs stuck it in a gravel trap at the Nurburgring over the weekend and I have literally 000's of chips all down one side and over the alloys!

Dont let the tyres put you off of a 335d, the cars really are what people say they are....for a donk they are damn quick and quite impressive off the mark, plus you get the economy with it. Ive had mine 4 months now and wonder why i didnt get one ages ago.

^^ +1
I bought one for the Mrs earlier in the year, it's perfect for her. She loves the fact that she puts her foot down and it just goes.
Personally, I find it excellent at everything . . . . but boring. I've heard people refer to it as a 'tool' and that sums it up perfectly imo.
Driving my old E46 330ci sport was more satisfying and more fun.
