Grinding noise

Hi all
I have a grinding noise coming from the rear in my wifes BMW 318iES Any idea what the noise could be?
It sounds like a wheel bearing is at fault and it only occurs over 30odd mph
I have jacked the car up and checked for play and noises in the rear wheel but there is nothing untoward (also, I cant spin the wheel up to 30 manually to check)
Also, can anyone recommend me a BMW speacialist in the Windsor area? I spoke to a BMW main dealer at Heathrow and they wanted to charge me over £350 to replace the wheel bearing (but could not guarantee that would fix the problem)
