Hi all,
as title really, seen a really nice 320d m sport business saloon which is 6 months old(09/09) with 6k on the clock, with the extras it comes out at just under £36k brand new. Have been offered it for £27k straight away without a word from me, it is the dealerships car(poss ex demo) do you think I could get a bit more off or should I bite there arm off?
Any thoughts welcome.
thanks
kev smile

Er, it's not a discount if it's a used car is it? Two different things. I have no idea if it's a good price or not, but if he's offered it to you unprompted I'd guess you could do better.

ok not a discount but you know what I mean, is this a real reflection of the lost value over 6 months?

I'd use the starting point for the new price as the base car without options - because when you want to part exchange it back in a few years, that's exactly what the dealer will be saying to you i.e. optional extras add little to no extra value to the car.

Sorry, but even at £27K that is still no bargain, it is a 2.0d FFS and is never ever worth a list of £36K. You buy it at £27K and you will still suffer enormous depreciation in a year or two.

I was thinking the same as when I sold my old 230d sport the extras only made it stand out from all the others being sold but didn't actually add any value.
I think the standard 320d m sport business comes out at just under £29k otr so should I go in at £25,500 and settle at £26k?
Wasn't really in the market for another bmw but saw this one and it is gorgeous.

Agreed, I have been trying to do a deal on a 56 plate 320d sport touring with nav, auto, xenons, Logic7 and 45k miles on it and he has said he would go to £14k, saloons loose more than tourings.

That car needs to be about £21k really, but in the current climate you won't get near that. I would aim for £24k or less, or order a new one and get the prof nav.

Most of the extra cost is for the bmw performance body kit and wheels, wheels alone come out at just under £3k then the carbon fiber spoiler is £400, the side skirts and front bumper come out at just under £2k the rest is made up of a few over bits and pieces.
When I bought my last 320d sport in 2004 I paid £25k brand new I did 60k miles in 2 years and sold it for £16K I didn't think that was too bad.

If I order a new one with the same extras it will cost me £35k with a grand discount, £27k is a big difference and it is the extras which make this car look so nice and if it didn't have them I wouldn't even be giving it a second look.

About 18 months ago I paid £18.5k for a 7-month old 130i with 1700 miles on the clock. The car would have cost c.£30k list with the extras it's got.

I know that a)it's not the same car and b)prices have firmed up a bit since then, but it helps to provide some perspective I suppose.

Fair enough, if you want the performance body kit and wheels then go for it mate.

It will always appeal to others as well.

There has been a 130i with all the performace parts on it for sale for a while, it looks amazing, seats and everything, however, it was at £35k, then £33k, then £30k, then £28k and now at £27k and still being advertised.

If it were a 335d, or even a 330d then I could sort of get adding all the parts, but on a 320d I'm not so sure??
Although I paid £24k for a 320d sport touring auto Feb 2008 and sold it before christmas for £21500, so they do sell.

I think you have to just buy them and enjoy them, think about the money and you never will.

I would always be thinking, I could have had a 335d sport for the same money though.

You could pick up a 550i M Sport with 35k miles for that sort of money. It depends on what you want though, if you prefer alittle diesel with big bodykit then it sounds like the perfect car for you. smile

Got to be honest I went in to look at a 335D but saw this and really liked how it looked. I have just sold my tvr tuscan as I am doing a lot more miles these days hence looking at a diesel but I still like a car to look a bit different/sporty and having had an e46 320d sport from new back in '04 I know they eat up the motorway miles with economy too.
Also back then my car had 140 bhp the new 320d has 177 and can be chipped for a few hundred which will get you 222 BHP.
I don't think I am gonna go for it, as like someone said it's just a 320d at the end of the day. I will stick with my original plan and get the new range rover at the end of the year.
Thanks for all the comments.

Sensible man. The BMW Dealers will offer you around £16K in 12 months time. It's a run of the mill car produced in tens of thousands so has absolutely no value to the BMW dealerships....

Talk about chalk and cheeseredface I think I might abandon my idea of getting a Gallardo next year and just go with a Volvo 760GLE instead......^^

I just paid £32k for a 530D M Sport with lots of goodies and only 3k on the clock so that does look expensive.

I paid £18k for a 15 month old fully loaded 130i M Sport with 12k miles from AD. List price around £32k when new. I doubt whether any sound minded buyer paid the full price to be the first owner.
