I have a 93 e34 525 with an unusual problem. I'm getting quite bad clutch judder in first gear..very noticeable in traffic around town. However..the problem ONLY occurs after 2-3hrs of driving..which I rarely do..maybe once a fortnight. For my normal short journeys there are no problems. Once the car has been left overnight, the next day it's fine again..until 2-3hrs of use again.

Any ideas from helpful PHeaders? Thanks!

Fairly common, wouldn't worry too much about it.

There is a technical reason, which I'm sure someone will explain

It's normal for bmw's of that era, something to do with the material they used in the clutch lining.

My 1994 e34 525 did exactly the same, it annoyed me so I had a new clutch fitted and it solved the problem!

as said above, it's generally nothing to worry about. happens on my E21 in traffic sometimes when moving away very slowly in traffic, won't happen if i'm at the front of the lights for instance as i move off and thats it, but in 1st if just held at biting point, it does judder. it's nothing to worry about.

...that's what I wanted to hear. As the car is just a run around I don't really want to spend any time/money on this..was checking it wasn't a more serious issue. Thanks all.
