Bit of a strange one. I've got a 55 plate 120d which I've had for about 9 months. In those 9 months i've done just of 10k, taking the car to a still pretty low 34k.

Recently the clutch has started juddering when I let it out (with no more than 2.5k revs), causing the gearstick to shake a bit too. It solves itself if i back off or give it more shoe. The pedal also has a bit of a high bite point.

Could the clutch be on its last legs? i've spoken to a dealer about the high bite point and he says it's normal, but if i want it looking at they need to take the gearbox off at which point they may as well change the clutch anyways. is it something I could get looked at under it's used car warranty?

any help/comments welcome guys

I've had the problem on my 08 118d, I had the car from new and the problem started at around 4k and by 9k (3 months down the line) I'd had enough, car sat at the dealers for 6 months waiting for a new 'modified' clutch to be tested then issued out. now at 23k and no problem.

If its the same problem then you experience differing levels of the 'judder' and it doesn't seem to matter how you drive or use the clutch. I have also experienced this on the 2 loan 120d's supplied by BMW UK.

Grease on the input shaft splines should be kept to an absolute mimimum and at best a very light smear of ordinary grease (or better still the little packet of grease that comes with the clutch kit) but I wouldn't use coppaslip as it tends to go hard with age and will then make the plate stick on the splines.

As mentioned in that babybmw thread link above, my 123d had its clutch and flywheel replaced a couple of months back under warranty at about 18 months / 15k miles old. It only really juddered when left to cool down completely overnight, but was quite grabby all the time. New one is much smoother in all circumstances.
