Basically looking for other users opinions, after a HUGE carry on with a faulty Audi A3 Sline TDi i eventually got a refund and went looking for a 330d Touring in Msport guise and a 335d popped up at decent money, having driven both auto and manual 330d i wasnt "that" bothered about what transmission it came in as long as it was a touring
So i have came from an E46 M3 to the A3 which was a MASSIVE disappointment in both driving and performance stakes, any ideas on how i am going to find the 335d?

I came from a E46 M3 18 months ago to a 335d MSport Touring. Certainly a hell of a lot cheaper to run! Its no M3 but is real world quick - the torque is addictive... Get between 33 and 40 mpg. Flappy Paddles only get occasional use now. Sat nav is pretty hopeless. Extra space is useful - but it isnt huge. Ride is quite crashy - but thats just the run flats I guess.
Over all - pretty happy with it - it just swallows long distances.
Would I buy 1 now - would probably go for a 330d with a manual box.
Do miss the M3 engine though!

I really enjoy driving the coupe (especially after I junked the runflats and the ride is now so much better on 19") as the torque is so addictive. Around 36 to 38 mpg with some fairly spirited driving at times and around 80ish on the motorways.
Satnav is crap (and it's the professional) so I use my bike Garmin as a back-up as well.
It only has 5 character postcode search cos those thick Germans didn't think of looking past their own country.
The standard sound system is crap and can easily be upgraded with the Alpine upgrade kit and it's well worth it.

I would think long and hard before buying a manual unless you are getting a fantastic deal on it.....it'll be bloody hard to sell on.
Agree completely on the RFT's....they're shocking.
I haven't driven a 335d but I have had a 535d and currently have an X5 SD....it's an amazing engine and even in the 535d was very quick. Bar the obvious M///c cars and a few others like the 135i I don't know why anyone buys a petrol engined BMW. Diesels produce the power where you need it.....they just suit everyday driving so well.

You wont find a 335d with a manual gear box so do even try looking for one, they only do them in auto, due to the amout of torque produced.Agree completely on the RFT's....they're shocking.

Yep you need to go 330d for a manual and even then they are VERY rare. Or 335i.
335d is auto (with paddles) only but it's a very good 'box.
Rumours are that the manual can't handle the torque (428lbs/ft) but that's only the BMW manual. Obviously there are plentu of manuals around that CAN handle that sort of torque.
Anyway it's a fine car whatever shape you get.
Coupe E92- for chest wig users
Saloon E90- just a bit too much like a Mitsi Carisma
Convertible E93 - a bit gay and very heavy
Touring E91 - dead sutble and cool...

I never worded the OP correctly with regards to the transmission I knew the 335d was auto only and hence why I wasn't bothered either way
Anyway I picked up a 335d M Sport touring in Black this morning and so far i'm very impressed, only 14000 miles from new on a 56 plate, lowest mileage example I found below my initial 25k budget

Interesting you say you'd now go for a 330d with a manual box! I had a manual in an E46 330Cd coupe and if I ever went diesel again my preference would actually be for an auto as I think it would be better suited to the characteristics of the engine (i.e. keep it in what is a narrow power band compared to a petrol). Also, the fun bits of having a manual in a petrol car like an M3 (enjoying the crisp throttle response, holding-on to the revs to use the top-end power and hear the noise) just don't apply in a diesel; reckon you're better with an auto and just letting it get on with it!Over all - pretty happy with it - it just swallows long distances.

Looks like the OP is sorted with a 335d Touring, don't think he'll go far wrong with that!
Very much so, a truly amazing car, im looking to ditch the runflats asap though, but its still early days, that aside a remap in the future will also be on the cards
Yes i have had several VR6s, in Corrado, Golf and Passat variants, the Golf being my favourite and the Corrado least so, then i also had an R32, it was a good car at the time but i had to sell it when i bought my flat, i never really loved the R32 as it was a bit of a disappointment coming from a supercharged VR6
My VW days are over for the moment and i think i will stick with the BMWs

What did you get from the M3? Given that diseasel is more expensive than petrol, it doesn't sound like the advantage would be great enough to tempt me out of an M3.The 335d is a very impressive machine (I've driven a couple) but would I swap the M3 for one if I was doing a higher mileage? Possibly but more likely my money would go on a 330i; less outlay, manual box, nice noise and best part of 40mpg with the latest engine!
I would still have the M3 if the replacement parts didn't take the pi$$, I would have spent the guts of £4000 in 1 year and 10000 miles on routine maintenance, as great a car it was I didn't think it was that great to warrant such an outlay, the fuel econy on the M3 wasn't bad though, better than my R32 Golf I ran previously, round town we averaged 22-23mpg on a run was closer to 30, but drive it properly in it's home territory you are looking at mid teens
And here's the final nail in my M3 ownership, dogs, 2 of them, we had always planned on getting a golden cocker spaniel but when we visited the breeder we ended up with 2 of them hence an estate being a necessity
I wanted something that we could use everyday, fit the dogs in, be practical but still fun to drive, and above all not cost the earth to run, the 335d IMO ticks all of these boxes
Would I have another M3, put simply no, too many up my way and the E46 is now being bought by less desireable individuals, and bringing the class of the car down. An E90/92 is a different story

Am I mad or deaf for wanting to get a E93 335d convertable? or would a E93 335i Convertable be kinder on my ears? Yes i do want a convertable. but and it needs to be the E90 shape, just a D or an i is the question. Saloon E90- just a bit too much like a Mitsi Carisma
