Hi,

I've had the car for just over a year, in which time it's never really felt 100% and thus had the following checked/replaced along with normal inspection 2 stuff:

- Intake Camshaft Position Sensor (it was throwing p0171/p0174 codes)
- Vacuum Hoses had small splits so were replaced

This evening I disconnected the Mass Air Flow Sensor and gave it a drive - suddenly it feels 100%.. no surging, hesitation or power flat spots.

Found this Guide to cleaning MAF Sensor but i'd rather just replace it.

Part no. 13627567451 according to realoem and $500!

Any ideas on where I could get it cheaper than the main dealers?

Thanks in advance!

GSF or Euro Car Parts may stock equivalents
if not, breakers like Fab Direct may be a good bet

No get a new one.

Try Ebay - but be sure not to get a patent part. You could try Bosch direct on their website, they were doing a 20% sale not too long ago.

My 540 had a slight flat spot at 4000 rpm, almost like a virtual gearchange (auto) - disconnected the MAF - car felt much much better.
New maf is £80 from ECP, so I thought I would try cleaning it anyway - and low and behold it fixed it!

I've just bought my 330Ci and the MAF was already disconnected (I spotted it before I handed over the cash so was factored into the price).

With it connected it had a very erratic idle and brought the emissions warning light on. I thought I'd also try cleaning before buying a new one, so cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol, left it to dry and refitted. Car's now running perfect with it connected, and after only a few miles the emissions light extinguished itself. I'd therefore give it a try. Only a few quid so you might as well..

Quick update -

Removed the MAF and cleaned it - temporarily made a difference but hesitation returned after a few journeys.

Ended up buying a new OEM Siemens MAF from GSF for £175+vat.

Car is running great now.

I should've read this thread sooner!! I can do BMW OE ones for that price once I apply some discount to our £218 RRP!! At least then you would get the OE 2 year warranty with it. Can all PHer's please check prices with me before buying non OE stuff!!!!!
