Hi, I've just fitted some 17inch 1 series wheels to my 328 convertable in place of the standard 15's. It now corners great bit tends to fall off white lines, follow rutts in the road and doesn't deal with pot holes at all well, sometimes giving the back end a sideways movement!
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers

As I had noted in a previous thread:

E36 BMW's on low profile tyres are well known for tramlining (as are the later E46's),especially with certain sizes (Mine runs 225/45/17 goodyear F1's on the front and on some occassions they can "grab" the road like a bugger!).
They can also be sensitive to certain tyre makes/combinations front and rear (Mine had Wanli's on it front and rear when I bought it,first wet roundabout,Jesus!,it was like driving on ice but without the grip!).I would advise having the same brand and model of tyres on both the front and rear and make sure the tyre pressures are correct.
Also worth noting e36's can be prone to worn bushes in the front suspension which can also give stange steering syptoms so may be worth getting this checked.

Going up from 15 to 17" will be noticable.

Do the 1er wheels have the correct offset? Are they fitted with RFTs?

No idea how wobbly an E36 cab is, but could be worn RTABs causing the rear end movement.

Thanks fellas I'll take at look at the bushes. Maybe I'll just have to live with it as it looks 10 times better with 17's on than the old 15's.

Sounds about right, they all do it, you wont get a better ride than on the std 15's.

However I'm not sure the off-sets on the 1 Series would be correct for the E36 as even the E90 (3 Series)and E87 (1 series) use different rims.

Also are they still fitted with the run-flat tyres as they have stiffer sidewalls?
