Basically ive gone out to my car thismorning which is garaged every night, gone to start it up & it doesn't even try to start, it just clicks constantly instead of turning over. I am no machanic but i have checked the basics, I:E battery terminals & all is fine that end. Everything else works like lights, stereo etc but it wont turn over.. Please help.

Give it a jump start.
BMW's are world famous for hiding a low battery, all the electrics seem to work fine, just the engine won't turn over.
If it's not that, it could be starter motor problems, but they are pretty reliable on BMs as a whole, so unlikely.

Cheers will give it a go. It didnt suffer any problem at all prior to this morning.
If i get it started, would it be wise to buy a new battery if they are known for it as you suggest?

Sounds to me like your battery is flatter than it shuld be. Did you leave any lights on? I've had this before with cars and although the lights/radio/etc all work there just isn't enough juice to start the engine.

Only solution is a jump start from a decent car and then take the car for a good long run to recharge the battery. It could be a duff cell in which case the battery will drop voltage again and you'll need to replace it.

Maybe, i think the best idea would be to check everything over first, make sure there isn't something like the glovebox light or boot light staying on, or the other major drain cause, aftermarket alarms. If it's charging fine, and there are no drains, then a new battery is next.

Just tried to jump start it & no luck. It doesnt even turn over, just clicks alot & the headlights flash whilst trying to fire it it.

And now some of the dash board lights are staying on even thought the key is not in the ignition & the drivers window has slowly come down & will not go back up. The clicking has also stopped & the car is doing nothing at when when i try to start it. I may aswel be turning the key in mid air.

This is without the keys in the ignition. confused

I would reckon you have a duff ignition switch, certainly looks like it.

Every BMW I've had which had a flat battery (and I have had a few) has done this bizarre lights-flashing thing when the battery is too low to start. The starter clicks, headlights flash, dashboard lights all flick on randomly. The control units go a bit screwy with low voltages and you see this weird behaviour.

It's quite probably a flat or dead battery and I'd try a replacement one before you try anything else.

Would it not had tried to turn over even if the battery was flat with jump leads?
Excuse my lack of knowledge.

That is a bit odd, but I wonder if the battery itself is dead and causing odd behaviour. Do you have another battery you can try?

Try jumping it again with the original battery out of the loop. Undo the cable from the positive terminal and connect the positive jump lead to the cable, the negative can be connected as normal. Make sure the connections are good and the flapping positive won't hit any metalwork.
Also make sure the vehicle jumping it is actually running once connected up and then try starting it again.

BMW electrics are very simple in the repsect that to start the car the dme needs a signal of the correct voltage, anything below and it won't turn over, hence when the battery starts to get tired one day its all good, the next day your walking!

Gone are the days when you could crank them with a half flat battery.

Pleased to hear a new battery did the trick and your mobile again.
