A friend of mine is putting a V8 and auto box from a 730 in to something, eh, different.

Anyway the engine is running fine, but there are issues with the box.

In reverse - great, picks up and pulls away as it should.. But in drive it pulls away as if you had the clutch pedal half pushed in. One of the other guys there said it's as if it's in winter mode and trying to pull away in third? not sure. The car is not ready to be taken out on the open road, so i appreciate it's difficult trying to diagnose what's wrong in 100 yards of driving. Can anyone assist? My suggestion was to wire up a little 4.5v battery pack and give the ecu power in certain areas to see if it helps any. Does anyone know the correct wiring for the boxes ecu? If we unplug the ecu altogether it performs in pretty much the same way so it makes me think we're missing something in the wiring.

The engine was pulled from a running and driving car with no faults.

See if you can get a copy of WDS - it's the BMW Wiring Diagrams and should cover that car. Have a look on the usual Internet sources wink

the failsafe mode is locked in third gear, so i guess with an ecu wired up wrong, or missing, it'll stay in the default gear
