This morning after a run of about 15 miles when I came to a standstill before turning the engine off the car started shaking quite a bit when below around 15 mph, when I fully stopped the engine control light (think that's what it is) directly under the battery indicator under the fuel gauge came on and it got worse. Switched her off for a few minutes and restarted her, was smooth and fine like normal no warning lights, took her for another 10 mile trip and came to a standstill outside my house and the same thing happened, and it stalled. Started her again and the warning light stayed on, it was shaking and it felt very rough when I revved it (around 2000 revs). The car was behaving normally otherwise, I've just had a new radiator/expansion tank fitted. I dare not drive it like this, any ideas of what this could be? Thanks

Could be, I'm thinking that if it was the engine itself then the problem would likely not be occasional like this, either way its going to the garage on Monday, here's hoping its relativly simple :-)

Hi,

Suffered from a similiar problem on my 523i. If you remove the righthand plastic engine cover you will find a rubber breather pipe (plastic on later models) running along the top of the inlet manifold. In my case this had cracked and collapsed inwards giving rise to exactly the same symptoms. New plastic type pipe sorted the problem - around £30 from memory.

Worth having a look.
