Would a Z4 with the 3.0 engine make a good track car for about 7 track days per year? Budget wouldn't stretch to the Z4M.
I'm after a convertible that's got plenty of power and a little refinement but not too big and lardy. Looking on eurocarparts the consumables don't look too bad.

I did one track outing in mine this year. The car understeers a bit too much as standard for my liking, but adding the small bit of negative camber that the front struts allow and increasing the rear tyre psi make it a nicely balanced drive.

A boxster S is noticeable quicker on the corners, but the front engined Z4 gives you more choices, albeit with less steering feel.

Not a bad all rounder really.

Is this a track car, or a DD/weekend toy to also be used on track?

I have used my 3.0 on the track once, it was really good.
Have to get some better brakes however, I could only do 4 or so laps before they died.

Check for a chap called 'trackdemon' on here. He has a 3.0 coupe that he uses on track allot and takes great pics too.

I spoke to Steve (trackdemon) before I bought my 3.0i Roadster - he liked his Coupe (different engine though) and commented on how reasonable/easy consumables were.

I've been very happy with mine, however I would make sure you get one with a warranty, as things can go wrong - some private cars have balance of warranty remaining, or go to a AUC dealer.

I think it would be fun, good compromise of comfort and speed etc. I have a 130i which I use for the occasional track day and it is great fun.
