There was a guy called partguru who worked at a dealers and could pull all that info, but i haven't seen him around for a while.

If you local parts counter is friendly, they'll be able to pull up a list. You used to be able to email BMW customer services for the spec, but everyone started doing it when they were bored and had nothing better to do, so BMW stopped it and introduced a charge for the service.

Give your local BMW dealer service desk a call and ask.

I don't even use my local BMW dealer, but called them the other week with my chassis number, asked the question and within 10mins they faxed me through the original factory options list with all the code numbers next to it.

When I first got mine, I had a service done at the BMW dealership and only mentioned that I wished I knew what options had been ordered when it was new. Five minutes later they handed Me a printout of the options that had been ordered (and that was on a 9 year old e36!) cool

A few months later I'd bought an M TECH illuminated gear knob off the net and asked BMW if they had any tips on fiiting it. They printed off their official fitting instructions for Me, including how to route the fader switch link cable. thumbup

That looks like a "VZBO" which shows all the standard equipment as well as the optional extras.
If you do a "VZAR" it will show optional extras only.

I used the dark art of the Aftersales system on ASAP which as an EX sales manager you would have no idea of!! It's where they show info on Accessories and how to sell them (PASA system) again something the sales department tend to know little about.hehe Sorry couldn't resist it no offence meant!!

I don't use the viewdata screens as they don't copy and paste so well. I think the original post requested standard anyway??

Oh yes, the eternal battle between Sales and Aftersales.

Personally I always got on well with aftersales (well most people, there is always an ahole in every department) but like you say I know nothing about those crazy systems you guys use.

Must say BMW's Viewdata is an awesome system that does an excellent job, although a little old fashioned.
No doubt it will be soon replaced by a new fandangled, slower, more complicated, less effective system, because someone managed to convince the powers that be that they need to spend millions on this great new replacement.

Hi I've just checked in case I hadn't copied everything across but the only other info is the colour and trim
Chassis Number: EX65006
Description: M3 E36 CABRIO MECH RL S50 EUR
Type: BK92
Production Date: 16.02.1996
Warranty Start Date: 18.03.1996
Paint: 314 U - Bright Red
Upholstery: N5SW - Black Leather

sales dealer: 00006
sales country: GB
Transient Customer: Domestic

Not sure about the other bit you mentioned.

KMC as you worked on the sales side does that ring any bells with you? Likewise the extra fuel line as well??

I do miss the management meetings we used to have with all the line managers and the DP present!! The banter was always good lol. We're an Aftersales only site now. I only have the service manager to bait now.
argue

How's business out there on your own??

All the bits that show up on your search, which I would call a VZBO on the veiwdata system, are just the standard items that show up on all searches for UK cars.

The items like "extra fuel for export" to me simply means they put 0.1 (or some other tiny amount) litres of fuel extra in so it can be driven on and off the boat, as opposssed to cars that only need to go on one tranporter from the factory to the dealer.

It looks like you have now found the Leather option code, which confirms the car was built with leather. Although it may have been standard, rather than an option on a M3. I never sold E36's new, so I dont know the standard spec.
Thats why VZAR on the veiwdata system is so useful, because it only lists the optional extras. Anything else not on the list that you can see on the car must have been standard spec.

Business is good thanks.
