what diff. oil?

popped into halfrauds to buy some diff. oil. earlier. their info. ring binder thing said to refer to the manual, so i flicked through all the fluid references and the drivetrain chapter but cannot find where it states what oil i should use. is there a generic one?

car is an e28 528i with an LSD. was hoping to finish servicing it tonight and this is one of the last jobs so would appreciate knowing what to use.

We use Mobil VS500 in the workshop, it's a fully syn gear oil. I had a look at the drum (we buy it in 20L packs) and I couldn't see any EP numbers. I'd try and match the fully synthetic bit and you should be ok. The dealers don't sell it in smaller bottles but if you get a clean container you may be able to buy enough for the job from them, we have sold it that way

cheers for the info. but had already left work. ended up buying some fully synth valvoline LSD oil which should be ok.
