X1 - What do we think?
Discussion
Can't see any other threads on this car in the BMW section, so just wondering what people think of it?
Looking at the reviews and specification lists it would seem BMW are onto a winner, as here you have something thats based on a 3-series and is more pratical, yet it costs less and comes with more equipment as standard, and the excellent 18d, 20d and 23d diesel engines. It might not be ideal for business users, but for a family I think it would make a very good purchase, and it seems rare to have a new car launched by a premium manufacturer without sky high list prices. It basicly renders the X3 pointless.

The X1 for me was one of those cars that I instantly liked the 1st time I seen one, the X3 on the otherhand I still dislike
I like it, and for what I would use it for my criteria would be as long as it drives similar to a 3series touring I would be over the moon, but I suppose I'm easy pleased

I quite like it. Although im not sure what the point of the 2WD only version is.. Makes it seem a little false/pretend to me.
Standard kit is reasonably good though.. But if you want a 4WD one, with say, auto and leather then they start looking rather expensive long before you do any upgrades to wheels & stereo etc..
I can't help but wonder what an X35i would be like though, if they ever did bring one out.. As in, an X1 with the 6pot twin turbo petrol lump in it

Hmmm, see in my opinion the 2WD is the best part of it, makes it cheap(er) yet you still have the high up seating position and practicality of a SUV. As I said in my original post, compares very favorably against the 3-series. Remember its still RWD.Had a good look at one last week - still not sure about the looks. Unfortunately the one I saw was in silver and with the black plastic body mouldings I thought it looked a bit cheap. Also looks a bit heavy at the front end. The interior was also a bit of a disappointment - again looked a bit basic and the seat cloth was a bit cheap looking.
Really wanted to like this car as I was genuinely looking at one for the other half but think I'll need to see it in a better colour with leather and bigger alloys. Speaking to the dealer he reckoned the car looks stunning in the brown colour of the PR photos - mmmmmmm wait and see who's brave enough to choose that.
The figures for that 23d mode do look quite impressive but it starts to get a bit expensive at that point. We're talking Audi Q5 s-line money and having tried that too the Audi felt & looked much higher quality.
Performance wise though the X1 23d nails it.
