Hello all, I'm thinking of trading in my Seat Leon 55 plate 2.0 tdi sport for a BMW 320d can anyone provide info on what goes wrong with this model? Any tips would be great, thanks.

We've ran an 04 plate 320 cd M Sport for the last 3 years. The only serious work it had was a new clutch and flywheel, that was covered under warranty though and to be honest it wasn't all that bad.

Other than that it's been great.

Tip would be keep the Leon. Going to a 320d would be a sideways step.

The BMs have dodgy turbos, flywheel issues, and then there's the normal suspension issues on the 3-series (knocking top mounts, fragile wishbones, bad camber eating tyres, etc).

I have owned a 2003 320D for 2 and a half years now and not had any problems with it. As long as you treat them well, regularly service them they last well.

As for the turbo's yes they do fail but again if you are careful, e.g. let the turbo cool down for a few minutes before switching the engine off, you should be ok.

My car has now done 136k miles and has been great, the only big expenses I have had in the time owning it has been to replace the driver side window when it got broken into. Other then that just the usual servicing costs. I get the car serviced from a local BMW Specialist and it’s not overly expensive to run.

Try and get an SE as you will then get a few more toys, and check it has a full service history.

You can easily get 50MPG on a run too.

Shameless plug, but this is mine… http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/1266943.htm
