E34 - retrofit remote locking
Discussion
As some of you may know I've recently picked up a cheap 540i, one of the reasons it was cheap was because there's only the one key with it and no remote locking fob. I presume all 540i's came with remote locking as standard (mine's a '95 if that helps) and the fob's been lost. I was wondering what my options are:
1) Order a replacement key and remote fob from BMW (is this possible?)
2) Get a generic central locking kit from Maplins or Ebay (this could be tricky to instal and could be unreliable)
3) Transplant a complete set of locks and central locking system from a dead E34 from a breakers (this could be a lot of work too, I wouldn't fancy changing the ignition barrel and would hate to need more than one key for different locks)
What would you do?

Order a replacement direct from BMW gets my vote
Right, I wasn't sure that was possible. What documents would I need to produce? I don't yet have the V5 as I only got the car last week, would the green slip be enough?Speak with Paul ( PartsGuru ) on here. Very helpful BMW parts manager.

LOL, you got rid of yours yet? I'd say yours was better looked after despite nearly twice the mileage - just a shame it's missing 2 cylinders.
not really advertised it yet to be honest. Got someone coming to view soon but will only sell it to someone decent! In no rush to sell really.Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
