Im looking for info on possable causes to misfire on my 1997 528. It runs ok at idle and while cruseing, i dont have any troble with starting cold or warm and the fuel consumption seams ok . Problem seams to be intermittant Only misfires under acseleration and seams to give a big splutter just before it starts to misfire then again when the problem clears? Any ideas on the cause will be much appreciated...

It sounds as though it may be an air leak.

I had one on my E34, between the air filter and the inlet manifold, the rubber had split underneath.

May be worth a look !

Air leak would be the culprit in situations where you run a lot of throttle for a long time

Hypothetically, +110mph on a motorway

Not that you would... smile

On mine, whilst the engine was at constant speed, the position of the engine was stable, if you accelerated or decelerated, the engine moved, the split rubber then opened up.
