Just started my 08 123d and tried to select reverse and I can't. In faCt I can't select any gear? Clutch feels no different but when moving the stick, it as if the clutch isn't engaged.

Earlier today I had to drive through a fairly deep ford. Relevent or coincidence? Any ideas?

Just tried With engine off and it was very sticky but did go in and freed up the more I tried.

Started the engine and tried, still no luck.

So decided to go for broke; engine off, stuck it in reverse, foot on clutch and started engine.

Jerked back but started and that seem to free it up.

Now works 'fine' but no idea what happened.

Someone else mentioned what would seem to be a clutch stuck on the splines, it went back to normal, and no obvious cause, symptoms or ill effects after.

I'd say relevant as it does sound like the friction plate was stuck on the splines, probably due to water ingress causing corrosion. It wouldn't make any difference to the pedal feel.
