ABS problems X5
Discussion
Just wondering if any of you have come accross a similar fault before. My Missus's X5 (2001 4.4 sport) recently threw a ABS/ TCS warning light along with the speedo going down.
I used carsoft to diagnose as a left rear wheel sensor(left rear also controls speedo reading) I replaced the sensor (now the third one ive done. Two on this and one on my e39) Cleared the fault code and took it for a drive. Lights off speedo now working again, result! Then, on approaching a roundabout, gently braked to slow down and the ABS cuts in. The abs now sporadically cuts in for no apparent reason under the mildest of braking. I presume one of the wheel sensors is sensing a wheel locking under braking even though it isn't.
My only thoughts are I could have possibly damged the sensor ring when removing the old sensor as it broke off at the top and took a bit of digging to get it out, or the new sensor is faulty. The strange thing is though, the car drives fine apart from braking. I now have no ABS/TCS lights on and there are no fault codes. If the sensor was faulty or the ABS ring damaged I would expect the sensor to read wrongly at all time and throw another code not just under braking. Any ideas??
