Hi guys,

I'm torn between 2 decisions, spending about 5k and getting something newish with low mileage (ST170, etc) or selling my 1.8 Focus and putting some of my own cash towards a nice 328i Sport.

The only problem is I'm not very good on the mechanical side of things so I'm wary getting a car as old as the 328i.

Should I be wary of mileage? I'd probably have about £2500 to spend, I can't find many nice ones on Autotrader for that money?

I'd rather not spend the 5k, as I'd be getting finance, I could get the £2500 through my savings and selling my Focus!

I would say options/spec are irrelevant just get a car you like, like all BMW’s the option list is pretty big so when buying a second hand one just try to get one with as many picked/chosen as possible lol. I have had mine for nearly 3 years and have done about 40k miles in it, The is a 1998 model and I originally had it because I wanted a rear wheel drive car that sounded pretty nice too, I do not regret my decision at all as it does everything I need and I see the car as bullet proof, cheap to insure and run, The arches are prone to rusting I think but get this sorted by a pro and look after it well and you should have no issues, Performance wise they are not too bad, mine just has a 325manifold but has not been remapped and it has cat back exhaust just for the noise and I see it as hot hatch quick, EP3, new focus ST’s, Meganne 225’s and there is nothing in it with a e46 330ci. The gears are a little long but if that bothers you, you can put a M3 LSD in which I’m doing right now.
If I wanted a cheap RWD car and don’t mind that its over 10years old then it’s a good car, but if you want a newer car and are spending around 4k and don’t want RWD for definite then a Ep3 Type R would be one I’d look at for a driver’s car or a ST220, personally the St170 doesn’t do a lot for me and having come across them multiple times I doubt it feels much faster than your 1.8, Hope some off this helps

You definitely want a coupe ? I'm looking at selling my 4 door which has been my fetish for the last 5 years and has all the right bits fitted. I'm not advertising it anywhere yet but am thinking of selling sometime soon.
