Bmw 118 Multi-Functional steering wheel.

I have a bmw 118d sports that is damaged and the airbag was blew , i ended up getting a steering collumn , wheel and airbag.
My original steering wheel didn't have the Multi functional sterio controlls and so on and i have plugged it all in and i was happy to press the button untill i realised that it wasnt doing nothing.. ? any ideas? ... thanks John

P.s will bmw have to recode it ? is the sterio not compatible? (the buisness bogo version)
