the "vehicle check" notification has appeared on the service indicatior screen on my car. i contacted my local dealer to book the car in for the check to be undertaken. they want £130+ vat for 1 1/2 hrs to check all systems, ie lights, horn, seat belts etc , effectively like an MOT.

i would welcome other peoples views on the cost for this check

Isn't it described as "statutory vehicle check" and the "statutory emissions check" must be due about the same time? I clear those myself at MOT time.

The Vehicle check is a thourough check over of the vehicle including fault memories and tyre pressures. Yes everything that is checked is almost the same as an MOT with the exception the wheels come off, plug in diagnostic unit and road test. These checks are what used to be in an inspection 1 or 2

The book time is 1 hour and should be done within this...At specialist level the charge is normally less than half that of a dealer.

The statory vehicle check is an MOT and will flag up next year with the statory emmissions check.

It's not an MOT, it's a chance for the dealer to park your car in the workshop for an hour or so, return it to you untouched, and charge you a few hundred notes.

Seriously.

But if you value your FBMWSH wink
