Could anyone report their fuel economy for a 3.0 ltr Z4, I'm looking at buying an 04 plate and am just trying to get a feel for what I'm letting myself in for.

From my hash at the figures I'd expect for a 55 litre tank to get approx 350 miles according to the german figures.

I'm interested in how many miles you get out of an average full tank, according to your driving style. Obviously everyone is different, but it would be great to hear.

Thanks guys

I get around 29/30 mpg with mix of driving. Around 320 per tank. Long run have got 37 MPG. I think it's economical for the performance you get.

+1

My wife gets 30 in hers week in week out.

Great economy for what you're getting

~ 300 miles before the low fuel light is on (and another 50 miles range with the light on) isn't uncommon.

Does well on longer motorway runs ~ mid 30's mpg achievable. I average ~ 28 mpg as I often enjoy the car and the tuneful engine (tip - remove the small piece of foam from the sound generator) wink

Long-term average 28mpg.

Easily 30-35 on a run.

Poor around town at 22mpg.

Usually 300+ on a tank.

(Mine's a Coupe – don't know if that makes any difference.)

30.5mpg for me over the past 6k miles in my 3.0i SE. Mix of A/B-roads with a bit of motorway, not too much stop-start city driving. Not holding back too much. Worst tankful has been 28mpg but longer runs see mid/high 30's.

For comarison with my previous cars on the same mix of driving:
Clio 172 34-35mpg, Civic Type R 28-29mpg, Ibiza Cupra TDI (158bhp) 43-44mpg

The Z4's surprisingly good on fuel given the performance IMO.

Have you considered an Alpina Z4?

At least as good mpg - mine averages 30, 36 on a run, much more power and torque and exclusivity

Earlier production models start in 2004 - you won't regret it!

We have an '04 3.0i with SMG / 45,000 on the clock. My long trips are showing around 33-34 miles per U.S. gallon.

Is it really a 55 litre tank on a z4 3.0i? I've only ever managed to get 49 litres in when the OBC has said <10 miles left so I assumed it was a 50 litre tank.

I just drove from Manchester to Maidenhead and back. A little town driving thrown in and I managed 33.5mpg from my 3.0

Pretty good considering the size of the engine.

On a juvenile sidenote, I have removed one of the foam pads from the noise generator and have acheived the perfect engine note; but I digress. smile

Do you not have to order up parts for the sound generator mod?

Can anyone post a link on how to do this to an E46 325Ci please?

It wasn't standard on the 2.5 Z4 so perhaps isn't on the E46.

Plenty of mpg threads on Z4forum.com

No. I have a 2004 3.0i, not sure about the 2.5. There are two foam bits, one small and one larger. Removing both does sound Chav-like or "ricer". However, removing the large one and keeping the smaller one worked for my tastes. Just experiment. The whole operation takes no tools and about 3 minutes.

AdamD removed one piece of my foam, and the sound is addictive now - if a little odd because of the location, but passengers wouldn't notice.

Glad you liked it, for reference we removed just the small foam bung just between the exit of the sound generator and the pipe that leads to the firewall a the back of the engine bay.

Where is the large piece of foam and does it come out easy? .... might have to have another fiddle sometime but at the moment its not intrusive but has a more pronounced warble as the engine revs up smile

Average 32.8mpg out of my 3.0i SE over the last 3.5k miles, a fair bit of motorway driving in there.
