ive allways like the e24 six series so im considering a project car.

ive found a 1983 635csi auto the body is prity sound.

however its an auto and i want to transplant an m3 or m5 engine with manual box.

dose any one no if the shell is the same ?

will there be any major probs mounting the manual box in an auto shell? or mounting the peddle box etc?

ive been involved in several e30 conversions so im mostly prepaired for the job but just never worked with the 6 series

Firstly I would register at www.bigcoupe.com as there is a wealth of information and advice there.

Regarding the engine, the M5 engine & box should fit: I know of at least 2 E24s with V12 engines!

Good luck!

I've thought of this, with my 6'r and asked a similer question a few weeks, ago, my first question would be, (and I'm probably wrong) that as a 1983 car it could be E28 bassed or E14 bassed, as I think that is the year they changed. So which 5 are you using as a donor?

The E24 Six Series was based on the revised E28 5 Series platform from 1981 onwards.

Been thinking about a similar thing with my 6er, though I couldn't do any of the work myself, so might be a bit expensive. It's a manual, so might make it a bit easier/cheaper. I really like the idea of the E34 M5 3.8 in my badboy. It's that or a cerb. Maybe someone like http://www.fritzsbits.co.uk/ could advise?
