E46 316 SE starting problem

I had to do some work on the BM this weekend and having had it jacked up at the front and then having re charged the battery it will not start.The starter motor sounds as if it is turning but the solonoid is not kicking in. The immobilizer is not operating properly; no flashing indicators or sounds and it will not lock on the remote.It locks on the key and unlocks on the remote.The handbook talks about the key getting out of sinc with the car if the car is tilted etc.Can anyone help, any ideas please.

Try putting the key in ignition, turning the key until lights come on but engine not started and operate central locking.
