Just read this http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/BMW-5-Se...

Looking at engine options it seems there is now no 535d Twin Turbo in the range. Surprising as the 7 Series has a new twin turbo 3 litre diesel engine (301 BHP, 443 Lb Ft Torque @ 1500 RPM) which they have named the 740d M Sport.

Do you think the 540d be launched a bit later as an M Sport edition only?

I have not read the article.

But based on past history, BMW tend to launch a new model with a smaller engine line up.

I beleive the thinking is that plenty of people will always want the newest model with any engine, and some time afterwards they will launch the more desirable engines.

I am guessing they will add the 540D at a later date

Shame no 523D either, as that would have been a much better option than the 525D

The 523d is definitely coming.

I reckon it will be 3-6 months before we see the 523d and the 540d.

It was the same with the E60.

Agree - the 540d will come - the 535d model has been too successful as a flagship diesel model to discontinue.
