Pulse with all due...etc.Why the hell should you have to go through all that palava on a supposedly "Top Marque" just to get a decent ride, its a joke.By the way in other countries you can buy these cars Non runflatas standard. Not us mugs here though.Plus at the end when you resell you will have to put it all back together again.Nonsense.
Engine is pretty faultless really, its the stand out feature of the car.
Mine is not high miles at 43k but i think it is the best engine BMW do.
No 4 cyl or diesel BMW's for me, its just wrong, if you want that you might as well by a ford/toyota/VW or whatever for half the price.
Powerful, smooth, souds good economical for the power, 25-35 mpg. No turbos to worry about etc.
As has been said, just put normal tyres on, they really are MUCH better and is only an issue if you trade in to a BMW dealer.

Foam stuff and compressor. Would prefer a space saver but there's no space.
There are more cars than i thought with this as standard now. My parents new Honda Jazz has no spare for example, just foam.
Believe me, for the amount of punctures i've had over the years (1 blowout and about 10 slow punctures in about 500,000 miles) you don't want to suffer RFT's, they ruin the car, apart from the fact they cost double, are sometimes out of stock rendering your car useless for weeks

Pete, with all due etc, it's not exactly hard to take the runflats off. Just pop down to the garage and ask for them to be changed. As I said, the E90 I drove the other day was perfect. In fact, I drove an M-Sport with 18" runflats, and it was faultless, too.ITP said:

Exactly. Extremely common these days, with weight and money saving coming in to play. There are more cars than i thought with this as standard now. My parents new Honda Jazz has no spare for example, just foam.

The engine will be brilliant, and as ITP has said, faultless. It has no turbo or diesel technology to go wrong, and it will just keep on going; easily until 250/300k I'd say. It has loads of life left in it, and it looks like a really good deal to me.Mine is not high miles at 43k but i think it is the best engine BMW do.

As said, also very good economy. My 3 litre gets better MPG than my 2.0T VXR did.

Does anyone have any other assistance to offer on the engine or the E90 SE in general?
Why do you want the SE???The M-Sport is actually more comfy, it uses Bilstein dampers and Eiback springs rather than the cheap Boge/Sachs set up on the SE and soaks up our poor UK roads far better.
Nice E90 for sale here....

That E90 does look really nice actually. I assumed the SE would be more comfy because of the softer suspension - I have a bad back, you see!rfn said:

What age is it? That will determine which engine it has. I personally would not own one of the DI engines without a warranty. Ours broke down when one year old. Required high pressure fuel pump, injectors etc. Would've cost 2.5k if out of warranty.NoelWatson said:

so you should be OK
So it seems there may be a price to be paid for the late 07 upgrade to the 330i engine for its 272bhp/170ish co2/35mpg. It WAS too good to be true, damn! Looks like it may be prone to diesel type tech problems. For second hand buyers the 05-07 version (258bhp/210ish co2/30mpg) appears to be better long term bet. I have noticed that the 3.0 petrol in the new 5 series is not rated at 272bhp but at 250 something again..............
