My 1998 523i (95k with FSH) appears to be using some oil. I had it serviced recently and it had an MOT and there were no issues. Has been running fine but today when my passenger got out I heard a ticking / clacking sound from the engine. Oil level has gone down but there is no sign of any oil leaks, smoke, stains etc in the engine bay. Engine is running fine (apart from the sound) with no unusual smells or warning lights on the dash.
Could this be a sticky valve, tappet not self adjusting etc or something more sinister? I appreciate that it is always easier to diagnose first hand but maybe someone has experienced something similar.
