E36 318is-Any major issues to look out for?

I will be checking out a few 318is at the weekend (and one or two 323/328's) and I was wondering if there are any major faults with this engine or parts.

The car looks immaculate and well kept. 125k on the clock, '97 example, full sport interior.

I got one a few months ago and it had a leak from the steering rack, it's only the hydraulic pipe and can be seen from under the front. If there seems to be an oil leak reach under and get some on your finger to see if it's red(hydraulic fluid). easy job to fix I had a pipe made eventually for £20, the mechanic fitted it in 15 mins.

Chain tensioner.

Both my E36's needed them.

Check for any knocks from the suspension; top mounts, ball joints, rear trailing arm bushes are all quite common items to fail.
