Hi! i have just bought a 328i Sport, its a genuine one ive checked that side of things out, however i tried drifting in it last night obviously turning ACS off but only one side spun?? i then tried to do a donut and found only 1 wheel was putting out? i thought sports had lsd?

Any ideas would be appreciated muchly!!!

Thank youuuuuu

If you have ASC then you don't have an LSD (as a rule, there are some exceptions).

Only the early (pre-96 IIRC) sports had LSD, and then they substituted it for ASC.

If you fit an LSD you can either turn off ASC every time you start the car or pull the fuse.

3 ways to check for Nikasil:

1. What is the build date of your car? If it is late 98 onwards then it won't be Nikasil
2. There's a tag on the block somewhere (you'll need to check out bmwowner.com for details) to show if it is Nikasil
3. Call BMW Customer Services for £1/min, and if the block was replaced by BMW then they will have a record.

Also be aware that driving the car in that manner can result in ripping the diff mounts out which is not cheap to get repaired!.

if the side of the block looks like the picture below, its an alusil block.

if its like the one below, its still a nikasil block

If you want an LSD the 3.15:1 from a 3.0 M3 (Evo won't fit) will do nicely and give you better acceleration, but at the expense of top speed.
I've not done this to my 328i (I want too!) but have heard plenty of good things from those who have. There are a few mods to get the engine to 220-230bhp too.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for the info! i appreciate all your comments. In regards to the slipper could do (with advice £?)07919 200 640.

I have an m50 inlet manifold and a group m induction kit and a superchip fitted, any other ideas to pep it up a bit more would be lovely! its amazing how much i have learnt here in the space of a week!!! shame i never thought to join before really!

I have a set of 4 m3 mv wheels with excellent tyres gathering dust here, so anyone know what i could do with them??

I think i might even show at the next event if i can, Would be good!!

I took the car to chandlers and i was told that there was nothing outstanding on call backs for my car apart from a steering rack part that had been changed! So thank you all!!!

Oh!.... and i notice a slight clunk at the back when i put her in 1st sometimes could that be the rubber donut on the propshaft??

Thanks Guys

The diffs are normally £250 - £300. Have a google for some selling secondhand. http://www.e36coupe.com has a "for sale" section they pop up regularly in.
You already have the engine mods I was referring to! Lucky git. I would get it dyno'd to see what it's putting out. Your car won't have a chip fitted to it unless it is a very early (95 iirc) model. The 328i had a remappable ECU almost from it's conception.
As for the wheels I'd stick to the standard ones if you have them. They're made by BBS and look just the job on an E36, especially with polished lips.
The clunk is probably propshaft donut. Mine does it slightly.

ha ha! Thanks! i just bought the car not long ago but i got a good deal on it being just before xmas!!

Thanks for the nudge in the right direction! i would put the standards on by choice but i bought it with a set of 18" lenso rs5's, im not too keen on big rims, i prefer the standards more!

I might dyno it in Jan just to see.

I agree with ADM06, the BBS split rims fitted as standard to the e36 Sports are the best looking wheel ever put on a BMW imho, much better looking than the M3 wheels, but they do suffer badly from water getting under the laquer and then corroding.

I'm another with the clunk going into 1st, pretty common from what I've read.

You're not having my 17's, I spent days splitting them down and polishing them. tongue out
As I mentioned above, http://www.e36coupe.com is great for all things E36. Advice, secondhand parts you name it.

The BBS 328 sport wheels are my favourite E36 wheel and I'd have them in a heartbeat - if they didn't need refurbing every year. My M3 evo coupe 'sunflowers' are reasonable substitutes.

They're fine when there's no laquer and the bolts have been changed to stainless ones. Just a polish every fortnight.

There are motors that control the flaps to direct air about, and they'll often still move just after you have switched off.

I spent ages poking about trying to find that noise, until I read it's normal!
