What should I pay (X5)?
Discussion
Hi everyone, I could really do with some advice.
My uncle is about to chop in his X5 and has offered me first refusal.
It is a December 04 Registered X5 3.0L Sport Diesel.
Silver, 55k miles, napper leather, parking sensors, cruise control, TV/Nav etc etc.
The car is in good condition although has a scuff on one bumper and needs four new tyres in the next few thousand miles. He has owned the car from new, it has full BMW service history - however it is an import. a friend of his sauced it for him brand new.
So, what will he be offered trade in - and what is it worth if sold privately?
Thank you!

I've been looking for one of these recently, somewhere between £16k to £17.5K seems about right from garages selling them, I'd take it to a trader for an accurate price for trade in. Be aware that the tyres will be £130-£200 each.
I don't know how much the car being an import will affect the price though.

Just let him get a price on it from the dealer he is buying his new car from - the true price, not the trade in value where any discount on the new car is tacked on to the valuation of the old car - and then pay him a bit on top.
Everyone is a winner - you get a car for less than retail, he gets more than he would as a trade in and can still negotiate any deal available on the new car.

Thank you for the info guys. Can anyone tell me what the running costs are like on these - how often will tyres need replacing and how bad are they 'really' on fuel?
Surely you would get a better response from your uncle, wouldnt you, or dont you trust what he might tell you?Ha ha - of course. Its just, well - he's not short of money and his idea of a 'little run-about' is somewhat of a large purchase for me.
