The remote central locking has stopped working on the wife's '05 530d estate, just a few days after a service frown The doors lock & alarm arms when I use the key, but nothing happens with the remote(have tried both keys). I have checked the fuses and all seems fine. Does anybody have an idea what could be the problem? It is under bmw warranty, so hopefully shouldn't be too painful to get it sorted out!

Cheers

I had what I think sounds a similar issue on an E46 and it was the black box, for all CL functions, about £500 fitted by my local indie.

Yes, it's most likely the electronics under the rear spoiler. Water can get in.

Mine is out of warranty and does it from time to time, then seems to sort itself out. Not enough aggro when it happens to warrant £500......yet !

Just going through this grief with my Z4, initially was thought to be one of the actuators but now believed to be an ecu. Was quoted £500+ for the part, plus labour by my indie (First Call, Nailsea - part owned by ph-er Hamski), but they have a hotline to a BM breaker who will charge <£100 for the part. If this cures the problem, I will be quite chuffed! (Would have lived with partial c/l if it was £500+labour)

This sort of problem (together with horribly oxidised wheels) on a 2003 44000 mile car tends to take the shine off (literally for the wheels) BMW build quality. I also run a 2002 Mondeo that has done 70k miles and has suffered from no such problems.

Extremly common issue with E61. They suffer water ingress into the Thrid brake light cover on tail gate.
Under there is a black cover which aerial diversity sits in side....Or in most cases swims inside..
Normally ends up being a replacement diversity, clean and dry connectors and seal in the black cover with bytul tape. Doesnt take long to do

Thanks for the help chaps - hopefully it will be covered by the warranty, but I will have a poke about first!
