I have been offered a swap plus £300 for my 528 on a 2000 728 sport. The 7er has 137000 miles with full service history, the same colour as mine and all the sport kit from the factory, brand new suspension all round, new cooling system at 115k and at 95k it had a brand new gearbox costing nearly £4k! Its in great condition inside and out, no better or no worse than my E39 really.

TBF

Work that needs doing on these cars at this sort of age is infact, suspension, gearbox, coolant over haults.

If it has recipts etc I'd be tempted.

Dunno what the condition of your 528 is, but I found the E39 to be much more of a driver's car than the E38. Nothing wrong with the E38, but if they're in similar condition and similar spec, I'd probably take the E39.

That was my first thought, but it is 'sport' spec - and that makes quite a difference.

I find the E38 a much more elegent and beautiful design compared to the E39 (don't get Me wrong, I like them both), in fact I think it's the best looking 7 series ever and must say that that if My parking space was bigger it would be seriously tempting.

If I needed the extra space then yes, if no then no.

What mileage has your E39 done? If it were me I'd be tempted to find one with a V8 under the bonnet. But if you don't mind a negligible decrease in performance and it's provenance and maintenance are as it seems yes I'd be tempted too. BUT I can't help thinking that if I did go for it I'd think it was a step sideways? Perhaps?

Edit to add having owned an E39 540i Sport I am seriously considering a 530i Sport as the next purchase. Not too big or too small. Not too fast or too slow. . . for my needs anyway.

122,000 with all the jobs that the 7 Series has had done, pretty much. I've been looking up and the fuel economy of the 7 Series and performance would probably be not that comparable to my E39, which I think has it just right for the balance of performance and economy that you get. Not sure what I'll do.

I have not driven a 728 but do own a 528

Have a look on autotrader and find out the values of 528 and 728. At a guess the 528 would be a higher value so why are you giving out the £300?

remeber the 728 will use more fuel and depending on the spec of your 528 the 728 may have more toys fitted and that could mean more £££ later on (pixel issues on the OBC and instrument cluster, electric seats?)

In some respects I wish I'd gone for a e38 as I coud do with more space.
the fact that the e38 has had a lot of work done makes me think its been driven hard??????????
