X5 bluetooth keeps disconnecting

I recently bought a 2004 facelift X5. When I pair my phone to the bluetooth in the car after a short time it starts to disconnect and re-connect the bluetooth constantly.
I've tried re-pairing the phone, and deleting previous phones.
Is there anything else I should do before taking it back to the garage? I don't want to look stupid if it's something simple.

Do you have lots of text messages in your inbox ?
This happened on my old E46 330 with factory BT.
Moved the messages and it then seemed fine.

first thing to check is that the make, model and software version of your phone is compatible with the build date of your car. This is an absolute minefield, i spent several years trying to explain this to customers. best way to get details is to check BMW UK website and go to the customer section.

Deleting well over 100 mesages appears to have done the trick, cheers!

If it starts acting up again is there a software update or is it new phone time?
