I have a replacement Cobra seat for my E46 318 which is intended, eventually, as a joint road and track car. I can't afford to cage it yet having just paid umpteen and a bit pounds for the suspension and brake job but don't find the standard seat comfortable + they are all knackered.

However, my local BMW dealer Stratstone have said that if the seat is removed the belt pretensioner will have to come out and that will disable all the airbags! Apparently they couldn't and won't do anything about it and suggest there is no solution.

Does anyone know if this is correct, for example is there a way to re-programme the electronics so it recognises (or ignores) the seat belt electronics have been changed but still allows the airbags to work?

Plenty of cars has seatbelt pretensioners withoug seat airbags, so I dont see there being a problem. You may need a resistor to fool the computer into thinking there are still airbags there though

Thanks very much for that - I'll ask the dealer/a specialist about resistors - which, where, if necessary etc.

Cheers
