I want to fit a towbar to the wifes bmw 320 touring which has parking sensors, do i HAVE to get a detachable one or will a fixed one be undetectable by the sensors? would rather have fixed as its cheaper. I would normally just de-activate the sensors, but the car has blacked out windows (previous owner) so you need the sensors to park as you cant see anything much out of the back windows

appreciate any advice. Cheers

If the sensors are in the same place as my X5 (with a gap in the middle) I would think that the towbar would be too close to the bumper and too low for them to detect it?

I'd experiment with a piece of wood to check but I don't think it'll be a problem as long as it's fairly close.

My E38 has a detachable one..a Bosal. My reversing sensors do not go off with the bar attached.

they do however go off if I am towing a trailer. They see the trailer, but the bar itself does not bother them.

I have detachable one but it is never detached.

Has no effect on the sensors so don't worry.
