Problems with my 120D M Sport
Discussion
Hi Guys having a few problems with my 1 series wondering if any one can shed some light on these issues.
Firstly a triangle has appeared on the on dash with an arrow circling around it anti-clockwise. It is part of the DSC I believe.
furthermore, the (ABS) light is also on.
I have talked to some guy and he reckons because I need 4 new run flats this is the problems as the tyers need to have good tread for the DTC light to go off?
Also do my wheels have to have run flat tyers? Can I put normal tyers on them? they are 17" tech M Sport alloys
Cheers guys!

ahem tyres...
It may be down to the tyres, sometimes a mismatch in the radius from wear will set them off, but if that was the case, the tyre pressure warning would come on.
You probably have a failed ABS sensor (although i'd expect that to put the tyre press. light on too)
You'll be better off getting the fault codes read first before buying 4 new tyres as that might not be the problem. You can fit normal tyres instead of runflats, quite a lot of people do as they hate the stiff ride from the stiffer sidewalls.

It is your DSC light, it means that the DSc is 'offline' and no longer working, as your ABS light is alos one I would suspect a wheel sensor has failed, get a diagnostic run on the car it should tell you which one is out or what the problem is.
You can change to conventional tyres without any ill effects, car should have improved ride quality, just be aware your car does not have a spare wheel/tyre.

that sounds like the 'hydro unit' has gone - had this exact same issue last week with exact same spec car!
Replacement part is £1800ish , plus fitting.
Luckily its 'known' and there will be BMW contribution, depending on milage / history etc etc. I had 100% contribution / 42,000 miles / full dealer history / was out of warrenty in march this year.
The bloke is right, crap tyres will make it flash on more often as it will be needed, however if the two lights are on all the time I would bet its the above.
google about for "hydro unit" and BMW's and loads of info will come up.
Just becareful driving at the moment... icy and no computers to catch your back end if you blat it!

There has been multiple threads on DSC/DTC failure on 1 and 3 series.

wow 1800 ish!! this is what scares me sometimes about owning a BMW the bills if something goes wrong can be massive!
Its not just BM who are getting this - apparently the latest VAG cars have a similar unit with the same problems and big bills! And to the OP - get you car to a dealer ASAP - BMW may pay a proportion of the bill.
