Sorry for my ignorance, I have never been a 4X4 person.
The time is approaching for the hot hatches and sport cars to be put on hold for a while due to a 2 year old baby and any future ones we may have. He his getting heavy lifting him in the back whilst trying to fit the seat belt, holding the front Recaro fwd with my elbow and trying not to slip . The wife's 5 door Golf is much easier.
I am considering a few options, the Audi Q7 S line (my neighbour has one and I do like it) or a BMW X5. or even a range rover sport or a Mitsubishi Shogun (Budget up to £28K) second hand. I will most probably sell mine privately.
I travel about 6K a year, my place of work is only 4 miles away but I suppose if I had the bigger car we would use it as the family bus, currently my wife hates my car and wont go in it. too noisy, too uncomfortable etc.
Can any body give a honest opinion of both cars ? which would you choose and why ?
Thanks

I have been tempted by the 535d M sport touring and the 335D version. I just wanted something to throw the family in, the dog, a couple of bikes etc.

I have a Weimeramer, teenage daughter and an 18 month year old son, and I can tell you now that the 5 series touring just isn't big enough to get it all in.
I don't like 4x4's and have always had estates, but I am seriously considering one next time as they are so much more practical.

I have an A6 Quattro avant at the moment and again we struggle to get us all in it. Had a Q7 as a loan car and it was so much easier to use as a family wagon.

Out of the two though I think I would go with the X5, it drives wonderfully for such a big car, as does the current Mercedes ML, plus the Merc doesn't look as humongous as the other two so gets less peoples backs up.

Have just handed back a X5 3.0d after a one year lease. Very impressive family wagon. Ride is a little firm (due to run-flat tyres) and if I was getting another (which I'm not as wife is getting a Audi q5 for family duties) would get the twin turbo diesel (535d engine). Overall I found the X5 good fun to drive with great steering. Have also driven a Range Rover with the 3.6V8 diesel which is a fantastic drivetrain (so a RR sport with this engine would be worth looking at)
