I am selling my TT to down grade as I don`t use it very often since moving to London.

I had a 530d before the TT and thought it was great.

What are E36`s like, do they have any issues I should be aware of?

Are there any particular area I should pay attention to when looking?

I am 21 so cant have an M3.

Budget wise... I am selling the TT for around £5k but prefer to spend no more than £2k.

Is the 323i or 318is 1.9 (4 cyl) coupe an option how to they compare?

And is fuel economy as good as the figures suggest?

I used to own a 318iS (1.9) used it mainly for motorway journeys in the time I had it I averaged 35-40 mpg.

The only about this 4pot is that it is very slow, the m44 is better suited to something lighter, like a Z3, whereas the 328i sounds much better more refined. The only thing you need to watch out for is the nikasil issue.

Any reason why you missed out the 325 from your list?
If the insurance isn't a killer, 6 cylinders has to be beter than 4.

Correct me if I am wrong but the 325 coupe ran from 92 to 95 in e36 form, I wanted something as new as possible,

Is £2k enough to get a decent one?

£2500 will get you into a decent 328 a grand more for a great one, go for the 2.8 it uses no more fuel than the other lower litre models. I think its worth spending more money on a better condition car, a "cheap" BMW is not always so... cheap.

As above, spend the extra on a genuine sport coupe. £3k-3.5k should get you the best. Keep an eye on e36coupe forum - they tend to have the better ones on there.

Im selling my E36 323 Coupe at the moment, and might consider a part ex for a TT. The 323 is currently advertised in the classifieds, pm me if you are interested.
