My E39 that is.. I haven't driven it for a few days and last night popped out to get something from the car/passenger side.
Well to start with the door was frozen to the frame which eventually opened, but then when i went to shut it it just bounced off the door lock!
Door wouldn't shut!
I sprayed WD-40 in the latch mechanism & the door handle as much as poss, and just kept trying. It eventually decided to do as it was told after 15 minutes of getting f
king annoyed!
It has just had an expensive Inspection 2 service and i can see all hinges etc have been re-greased.
Just irritating, anyone else have frozen car stories to tell?
Oh, this morning i saw -6.5 deg on the dash at 07:00 on the M25..c c cold!

Most BMWs have heated locks, you just need to hold the handle up for about 3 secs to get it started, and it'll start heating the mechanism.
Try to find some spray grease for the locks, as WD40 will work for a short while, but can wash away any grease inside, so it will return worse than before.

Do they really? First I've heard of it! Try to find some spray grease for the locks, as WD40 will work for a short while, but can wash away any grease inside, so it will return worse than before.

They've been an option for years, e24s had them, and i'm guessing an e39 would too.
Yesterday I drove from Belgium to South West Germany in the X5 (E70), both headlight washers had frozen (max -6 but then assume added wind chill on the autobahn)and when we arived the washer cover was loose and wouldn't fit flush to the bumper. When I went to the car later all had returned to normal, so I assume the things had just frozen!

I think I'll have to have a look in the X5 handbook if I ever got off this rig.
