I am thinking of buying an 04 plate X5 with full dealers service history & 44K on the clock. Please give as much feedback as you can as i don't know much about them apart from i like the style of the car. It is fully loaded with all the extras.

How heavy are they on petrol, how do they handle & so on.......

As far as I'm aware their is only a 4.6iS or 4.8iS, not a 4.4iS.....

I had a 4.8iS for a year and loved it - having said that I put 36000 miles on the car during that year and put £10k worth of fuel in the beast - just make sure you are ready to accept huge fuel bills and sneering glances from eco-idiots!

If I were to have another X5 I'd go for a diesel (also had a 3.0D M Sport for a year) as it's every bit as good and when chipped not a lot slower!

Suggest you take a look at x5drivers.co.uk - there are some really useful buyers guides on their.

The 4.4i is a good car, if you're not specifically looking for a 4.8iS which tend to have more comprehensive specification, a more aggressive look and obviously better performance. If the seller is presenting the car as having all the options, I would recommend you check this is the case, as the options list is extensive (one of my pet hates is cars advertised as "has every option" - in reality they rarely do!). The full options list (with prices) and standard kit is here:

http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/equipment/Detail.asp...

I have a facelift 2004 X5 4.8iS amazing performance and handling, and great build quality. Air suspension and panoramic sunroof can cause problems, but otherwise pretty reliable. My long-term average mpg is 20, but obviously you don't buy a car like this for fuel economy.

Regards, Gary

I agree and have put a note on the forum for the mods to see if they can do anything to help.

Nope, tried again and still can't register.. And I work in digital marketing!
The average age of X5 owners isn't that young I'm sure - just think how many members they are missing out on..

I know a post has been made re this problem on the site and I'm sure it will be resolved - shame because it's a good site with a wealth of threads on every aspect of owning/buying/selling an X5

Just had a mooch around on that X5 site.

One for sale in the classifieds

Those tyres must give a hideous ride surely? And they look total w@nk too!!

I like X5's though, they're on my list of future family cars.

Had my 02 4.4i Sport for 6 months now. Really like it. I get 24.5mpg on a motorway at 70ish. Round the houses when its warm about 20 but short journeys or with the Mrs driving down to 15 or 16. Very capable and comfortable beast. Check all the speakers are working and the steering column adj works well. If you can find one with double glazing the peace is a real treat. (Not just for keeping the heating bills down)

best car we have owned, only faults in 5 years are a dodgy sat nav disc reader and some sort of fuse thing around the heater blower, massively comfortable, very powerful and not too bad on fuel, exellent build quality i think far better quality than a rangie

had a 2001 4.4 sport, was ridiculously heavy on fuel, had it gas converted and still my accountant hated it, then the gearbox failed, cost a small fortune, apart from that though, a fabulous car, sounded good, went well, handled sublime for such a big vehicle, a very impressive bit of kit but don't expect economy, my friend has a 3.0d sport that has been remapped and its not far off with performance.
