BMW don't make V6 engines, neither do ALPINA, it's not a crappy Audi you know wink

I'm guessing you mean the 3.3 or 3.4 straight 6 engine, in which case yes they're bloody great.

Cheers,
Rob

The e39 Alpina B10 range came in the following configurations...
  • 3.2 B10 - 260bhp straight six
  • 3.3 B10 - 280bhp straight six
  • 4.6 B10 V8 - 340/347bhp V8
  • 4.8 B10 V8S - 375bhp V8
And for the enviro-mentalists out there there was a diesel...
  • D10 - 245bhp straight six
The V8S is the best of the bunch IMHO, although I'd quite happily have any of them if they were being given away.

The 3.2l ALPINA motor is an Inline6 not a V6.

It's a good motor and will deliver near 540i performance but with the rack and pinion steering that the I6 cars benefit from.

The B10 chassis offers ALPINA's usual supreme ride and handling with a suppleness that means that little will stay with it on real world roads with less than perfect surfaces.

There's also a B10 V8 with a 4.6l V8, I rate them too - see profile.

Best to ask the seller what the oil consumption is like, they like a drink.
Look on the Alpina register for further info on the oil usage of the straight 6 engine this problem is covered in detail.

The B10 V8 is a different beast, in the six years I have had mine it has used no oil at all between services, even at Autobahn speeds driving

Mine too.

Every oil-change the same quantity as went in comes out, much the same colour too...

I haven't had mine six years yet but I'm sure I will. smile

Please buy something else and leave the Alpinas to the enthusiasts.

Seriously - they are collectors cars which offer a special something. If you don't know much about them and insist it's a V6 even after told otherwise you'd probably be better off with one of the normal cars in the BMW range instead, less hassle. A 528i or 530i is probably a better car for you.

I have a B10 3.2 Touring, which is one of 4 tourings in RHD.

The 3.2 engine is a gem, mine has done 128k miles and runs perfectly.

It was a bit of a childish comment by myself, however in an earlier post I did say it must be IL6 then, I wouldn't have a 528 or a 530 as the Alpina would make more sense due to the lack of depreciation it'd suffer.

I'm after finding out about them so I can make a choice on whether to go for it.

a 3.2 IL6,so is it a version same lump found in the e36 m3 then? Single or double vanos? any thing in particular I should look for?
