folks, Someone drove past my car whilst it was parked on the side of the road and clonked the drivers side mirror.

I think that it's just the glass that's gone, and thus (hopefully) a cheap replacement - but I wondered if someone can confirm. It's a '55 plate 320d touring, and here are a couple of snaps to show the damage - I don't think that anything else is missing or broken, but as I (bizzarley couldn't find the glass, I'm not sure)

(the pics are in much higher resolution on the links, if that helps diagnosis :-) )

I think it's likely that someone has nicked your mirror glass. They're not cheap.

+1 yes . Looking at the pictures I'd pretty much guarantee your glass has been stolen (glass missing, heating element cables cleanly disconnected).

The glass just clips onto the four little lugs on the black plastic ring.
For a replacement you could try: http://www.fabdirect.com/ or http://www.quarrymotors.co.uk/index.html or http://www.c3bmw.co.uk/default.asp if you don't fancy the dealer's prices.

Big thanks guys - I got a replacement mirror glass from BMW Ocean in plymouth - £65.

The dude at the dealer was pretty convinced that someone had nicked the glass, he said that on X5's and X3's it's really common, as the light sensitive glass is £300 quid - blimey!

Cheers

No worries, there are some complete wcensoredrs out there!.

Previous Christmas I went to get in the car on Boxing day, only to find the passenger door mirror hanging by it's motor wires. Some clever little scensoredt had gone along the road ripping everybodies mirrors off. Thing is, to get to Mine they had to deliberately walk across a private parking area. furious

This Christmas it was My mums turn, she had her tyres slashed on Christmas Eve!, along with the rest of her street.

Someone should shoot the bcensoredds!.
