On a 535D its essentially the same thing, a software remap of the ecu, chipping used to refer to actually soldering a different board onto the ecu, this happens much less these days, so a software map it will be.
Simon at Emaps or Sal at Evolve both do decent fairly priced maps for the 535D

cheers for the advice and info lads.
ps... when i get my car re-mapped, i have been told that my mpg is better? and how much BHP should i go for, when re-mapping.

Almost all the maps do around 340bhp and 500 lbft. They seem quite happy at that power.ps... when i get my car re-mapped, i have been told that my mpg is better? and how much BHP should i go for, when re-mapping.

Whatever the remappers claim about mpg, the gain is only that you need less throttle to attain the same speed. Most people I know use all the throttle to attain more speed and so end up with the same mpg..
but going faster

to the o/p. dont forget to ask for the car to be delimited too. This will change your top speed to about 173mph.
probably unusable but a good talking point....
I understand DMS are very good at their job with a good reputation and a rock solid warranty just in case.
I intend to see if mine is de-restricted in January at Bruntingthorpe when my car is used by Autocar for their magazine shoot (not that it's been mapped of course
)
I'm pretty sure BMW must be aware that a fairly large number of their diesels are mapped and probably ignore the fact when any claims are made that 'might' be attributed to the extra power going through the power train because it's too much agro to confirm the map is actually the problem.
I was also told the other day that BMW themselves are now offering a power upgrade to these cars (as well as the 35i) as they know they are losing business (not sure if it's true though?)

They are also horrifically expensive, and the map is no different from one you would get anywhere elseVixpy1 said:

Also, don't forget to inform your insurance company since if you don't, you'll be driving without valid insurance. It may add nothing to your premium but should you be involved in a serious accident, they will look at the ECU. With remapping now being so common, it's worthwhile the insurance companies investigating alot more accidents in this area.

Double check with Rob / Mike that your car has been de-restricted. My old 335d was originally mapped by DMS but they couldn't de-restrict it, not a problem for normal use, but frustrating for VMax events (twice over!). I replaced it with an Evolve map with de-restriction and the car did 167mph over the 1.6 miles at Brunters. The DMS map was very good but the Evolve one was superb, thoroughly recommend them. Best bet is to give Sal a call and discuss your requirements.I intend to see if mine is de-restricted in January at Bruntingthorpe when my car is used by Autocar for their magazine shoot (not that it's been mapped of course
