Hopefully you can read this, its a poll/thread I started on SXOC about tyres for my E39 540i

http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=439696

I ended up choosing Kuhmo's for the front and Federals for the rear smile

This way I can swap them over front and rear and notice the difference in grip and road noise etc myself smile

Then the next set will be purchased based on this

It is all about feel and personal preference but I had a set of Vredesteins and thought they were dreadful in the wet. Just my humble opinion but my Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres have been top notch (if a little disappointing for wear)

On my E60. Not sure how to explain that one - maybe not suited to the model? specific tyre size not one of their best? my driving? EWhatever, I hated them!!

I think it depends on what you want from a tyre.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2's are very progressive, you can really feel what is going on with the car and can feel when the back is going to go, a great tyre if you want to learn how to control your car at the extremes, and imho the best all round road tyre you can buy for a rwd car. (and for any car in fact, but specially for a rwd one.)

Falekn FK452 are good for the money, had 5 sets, but they are no where near the level of the PS2's.

Kumho KU31 is one of my favoruites now, great value (in the UK anyway) and they are a really good tyre, I would take these over Conti Sport contacts, Pirelli Neros (but not Rossos) and the Goodyear F1's (GDS3's not assymetrics).

I'd actually recommend the original Vredestein Ultrac. Stiffer sidewalls than the newer Sessenta. My housemate has them on his M3, and I ran them on various cars, tried other tyres and always end up back with the Ultracs.
