Just wondering if any members on here have a decent bike rack for an e39 BMW, after something secure for my m5, what are the genuine BMW roof racks like? found some on ebay and was thinking of combining that with maybe a thule bike rack to go onto it.

Any members on here fancy giving me some input, not to keen of having a bike sliding down the car on the motorway....

Cheers

Bit of a long shot but do you have a tow-bar fitted. I have a thule one for my audi that clamps on to the towbar , literally 3 seconds to put on / remove. They are not car specific and work on any towbar , swan neck , std . detatch etc

I've got the BMW roof bars & two cycle carriers: bars fit really well, not had to carry the bikes up there, yet, as they fit on the back, but all signs are good. Got mine off the Bay, as new they're big bucks. Most of the bits are available through dealers, so I got a couple of end covers & new locks, whole lot looks new. The same bars fit the e46 3 series, but the previous models won't, the mounting system is different.

I've recently sold my E39 M5 and I was using a Thule roof bars which were brilliant. The nice thing is that if you do change car at some point then it's easier to just replace the feet with a Thule rack, plus they're cheaper than the BMW ones in the first place. You definitely won't go wrong with one. For specific bike racks, either the Thule ones or Atera ones are the best choices on the market.

The other fun thing is other drivers having no idea how a 'family car' with bikes on can cover ground that quickly. Enjoy!

I've got an E39 touring. I use Thule aero bars and a Thule 591 bike carrier. Very good, everything locks and it's easy to use - recommended.
