M30 Thermostat
Discussion
Chaps,
Would a knackered thermostat cause overheating?
My E32 decided to spew all it's coolant out today (again) and the nice AA man suggested it may be the thermostat as the top hoses were hot but the bottom hose from the radiator was cold.
It's beginning to frustrate me greatly.
Any thoughts?

I changed mine just before Christmas due to the same symptom. Top hoses, t'stat housing and left hand side of rad all red hot but bottom hose cold. The temp needle was only in the centre though and it wasn't really an issue unless the car sat idling for a while.
What did surprise me was that the new t'stat was marked 80c, but the one that came out appeared to be 88c. The car now runs a lot cooler and hasn't got anywhere near mid point on the gauge, it has been perishing outside though.
